Grazulis Notches Fifth Double-Double, Leads Panthers Past St. Francis

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 2 Davenport women's basketball team hosted the defending national champions No. 8 Saint Francis (Ind.) Friday night in a pivotal non-conference matchup. Daina Grazulis led Davenport as she notched her fifth double-double of the season, recording 19 points and 13 rebounds. The Lady Panthers are now 11-0 on the year, and won't be back in action until the Holiday Classic, which starts on Dec. 29 against Grace Bible.

Grazulis led the way for the Panthers scoring and rebounding in the game, Alex Law also recorded double-digit figures as she scored 13 points and Kia Frazier came up huge for the Panthers as well, recording five points, eight rebounds, and five assists.

To start the game, Saint Francis jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, and maintained the lead for most of the half until Davenport tied it up 19-19 with 7:29 left in the first half. The Panthers finally pulled ahead for the first time with 4:24 remaining after a Kayleigh VanKeulen three pointer.

The Panthers went into the half leading 25-24, but only managed to 28 percent from the field. Davenport also was 1-5 from the line at the end of the half, and 4-15 from beyond the arc.

In the second half, both the Panthers and Cougars continued strong defensive displays, until the Panthers were able to go on a 12-4 run. Davenport was able to increase their lead to 13 points after a Van Keulen three, and the Panthers never let up afterwards. As the final buzzer sounded, the Lady Panthers came away with a 59-46 victory.

After shooting just 28 percent from the field in the first half, Davenport shot better in the second half shooting 35.5 percent, finishing 31 percent on the game.
