Singleton, Bench Combine for 71 Points in Win Over Tigers

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Riley Singleton scored a career-high 13 points, Sara Clancy added a dozen and Brianna Schutte collected 10 in her varsity debut as the Davenport women's basketball team's bench scored 71 points to lead the second-ranked Panthers to a 100-56 win over Grace Bible to kick off the DU Holiday Classic Monday night.
 
The Panthers (12-0) return to action Tuesday facing Roosevelt, a fellow participant in the last two NAIA Division II Tournament, at 5 p.m. The Tigers (11-3) will precede the Panthers with a matchup against Marygrove at 1 p.m.
 
While shooting 53.3 percent from the field throughout the contest, Davenport conceded two turnovers to set a new program record. The 2011-12 version of the Panthers committed four at Cornerstone for the previous best.
 
Grace Bible relied heavily on the 3-point shots throughout the contest, connecting nine of its 20 successful field goals. The Tigers finished shooting 40 percent from the field, 52.9 from beyond the arc. Anna Iwaniw led the effort for Grace Bible with 20 points, Megan Scholtens followed with 16 and Abby Schultz had a dozen.
 
Davenport's starting five of Kelly Dineen, Kayleigh VanKeulen, Kia Frazier, Linnea Brandholm and Daina Grazulis opened the contest with a 10-0 run within the first three minutes. Grazulis earned 10 points in nine minutes of work to lead the starting pack throughout the contest.
 
The bench would take over and carry the team by scoring 34 points and give Davenport a 52-29 lead at the break. Riley Singleton had seven points to lead the reserves along with four rebounds.
 
The Panthers shot 51.2 percent from the field while going 5-for-12 from beyond the arc. Grace Bible relied heavily on the 3-pointers, connecting six of the 10 total field goals. The Tigers wound up shooting 43.5 percent around the perimeter.
