GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team will partake in the Saint Xavier Midwest Tournament in Chicago, Ill., this week. Davenport will start the tournament on Sunday against host 15th ranked Saint Xavier (Ill.) before they face 11th ranked Saint Ambrose (Iowa) on Tuesday. The event will wrap up on Wednesday afternoon when they face on of the other teams in the field: Marian (Ind.), Cincinnati Christian or Lourdes. Rick Berkey will call all three games live on the DAN.

The Cougars sit at 8-3 on the season and are 4-2 in the Chicagoland College Athletic Conference and are tied atop their division in the conference with Cardinal Stritch. Saint Xavier has four different players averaging double-figures this season, as Jack Krieger leads the way averaging 21.6 points per game. As a team the Cougars put up 90.5 points per game, while they allow 81.0 points a game. Mitch Uratchko leads the team in rebounding with 5.5 rebounds a game, and the Cougars grab 36.9 boards per game.

A Quick Look at Saint Ambrose (Iowa) – 9-4, 0-0 MCC – Head Coach Ray Shovlain
Saint Ambrose enters the weekend ranked 11th in the NAIA DII Top 25 Coaches Polls and are 9-4 on the season. The Bees have a balanced scoring attack with all five starters scoring in double-figures. The team combines for 82.1 point per game, while allowing 77.6 per game. The Bees are outrebounded by a slim 0.4 margin, while they grab 35.1 rebounds per game.
 
The Rest of the Field
After the Panthers face No. 15 Saint Xavier (Ill.) and No. 11 Saint Ambrose (Iowa), they will face one more opponent in the field that consists of Marian (Ind.), WHAC foe Lourdes (Ohio), and Cincinnati Christian. Marian enters the tournament with a 7-4 record and is 0-2 in the Crossroads League. Dion Smith has led the Knights with 16.8 points per game and 7.8 rebounds a game. Lourdes is 9-3 on the season and is one game behind Davenport in the WHAC with a 5-2 conference record. The Gray Wolves have had a balanced offensive attack this season with three different players averaging double-figure this season. Cincinnati Christian is 9-5 on the season, and they will open up conference play at the start of 2015.
