SIOUX CITY, Iowa – On the second day of the NAIA Championship Pool Play, the 13th ranked Davenport volleyball team faced the number one ranked team in tournament in Rocky Mountain College. The Bears were able to sweep the Panthers 3-0 as the Panthers dropped to 35-9 on the season.
Krissy Dill led the Panthers with seven kills in the match while
Maddy Cassleman had 18 digs. The Panthers will conclude pool play on Thursday night at 6:45 p.m. EST against host Briar Cliff (Iowa) at the Tyson Event Center.
The Davenport offense struggled against Rocky Mountain as the Panthers had a hitting percentage of .035 for the entire match.
Krissy Dill led the team with seven kills in the match and
Molly Lameyer had six kills, while
Amber Getty had the highest attack percentage for Davenport with .300.
Davenport fell behind Rocky Mountain early in the first set as the Bears jumped out to a 6-1 lead over the Panthers, but Davenport battled back in the first set to tie the set 10-10. The Bears pulled ahead by a slim three point margin, before the Panthers tied the set once again, 19-19. Rocky Mountain closed out the set on a 6-1 run to win first 25-20.
After Davenport took a quick 2-1 lead in the second set, Rocky Mountain ran away in the second set to win the set 25-10. In the third set, Davenport was able to jump out to another early, but the Panthers could not pull away from the Bears as the third set was tied eight times. After the set was tied 15-15, Rocky Mountain finally pulled away from Davenport to win the third set 25-18 and complete the sweep of the Panthers.
Lindsey Wilson and Rocky Mountain both sit at 2-0 in the pool and both squads have clinched their spots in the single-elimination bracket of the NAIA Volleyball Championship.
The Lady Panthers will wrap up their season on Thursday night at 6:45 p.m. EST against host Briar Cliff (Iowa) at the Tyson Event Center.
Post-Game NotesThis is just the second time all season that Davenport has lost back-to-back, with the first occurrence happening in the first two matches of the season… The Panthers posted their lowest attacking percentage of the season with a .035 attack percentage and DU tied their season low in team blocks with two in match… The Bears had 16 total blocks against the Panthers, which is most a DU opponent has recorded this season.
