GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport D1 hockey team looked to avoid a season sweep against Adrian as the two team battled in the final regular season against one another.
Mason Bohlinger and
Kody Polin scored the only two goals for the Panthers as Davenport lost 3-2 and drops to 11-6-1-3 on the season. The Panthers will have a pair of home games next weekend against ACHA powerhouse Ohio starting on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
Â
Kody Polin got the Panthers started right out of the gate as he got a stretch pass from
Cody Walsh and Polin was able to beat the net minder on his backhand to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead just 1:21 into the game. However, Adrian battled back to tie the game and then take their first lead of the game on power play goal late in the first period as the Bulldogs took a 2-1 lead into the locker room.
Â
In the second period, Davenport tried to tie the game by putting pressure on the Adrian defense, but the Panthers were not able to tie the game until
Mason Bohlinger was able to sneak past the Adrian goalie to tie the game at two heading into the third period.
Â
The Bulldogs broke the 2-2 tie with 12:48 left in the third period as they were able to find room off the rush to beat
Matt Kaludis on the blocker side. Davenport tried to make a comeback late in the third period, but Adrian was able to keep DU with the Bulldogs coming away with a 3-2 win.
Â
The Panthers will be back in action on Friday when they welcome Ohio to the Patterson Ice Center at 8:30 p.m. to kick off a tough stretch to close out the first semester.
