GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After concluding the regular season with a sweep against then No. 2 Robert Morris (Ill.) and finding out their National Tournament draw with No. 5 Stony Brook, the Panthers will now focus their attention to the GLCHL Conference Tournament. Davenport will look to defend their tournament title as they defeated Adrian last year in the conference finals. The Panthers will open up tournament play holding the second seed and will play the seventh seed Kent State on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in Rochester, Mich.
Date: February 21-23, 2014
Location: Onyx Ice Arena (Rochester, Mich.)
THE GLCHL TOURNAMENT
The tournament includes all seven teams from the conference and will take place in Rochester, Mich. as Oakland is the host of this year's tournament. The number one seed is Adrian and they will receive a bye into the semifinal round where they will face the winner of four seed Eastern Michigan and five seed Michigan-Dearborn. The Panthers will open the tournament as the second seed and will play Kent State who is the seventh seed. Oakland will host the tournament and is the third seed where they play sixth seed Western Michigan to close out the games on Friday.
If the Panthers defeat Kent State and Oakland defeats Western Michigan, the Grizzlies and Panthers will face each other for the fifth time this season and DU will look to beat Oakland for the first time. If the tournament has no upsets through the first round the Panthers will play Oakland at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The conference tournament will prepare Davenport, Adrian and Oakland for the National Tournament, with playing so many games in a short period, which the three teams will see at nationals if they make a run.
