No. 7 Men’s Rugby Travels to No. 4 Lindenwood in Mid-South Conference Battle

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After a tough loss last weekend to third-ranked Arkansas State the seventh ranked men's rugby team has another tough road test ahead of them as they travel to St. Charles, Mo. for their second conference match of the season against fourth-ranked Lindenwood. DU dropped their game against Arkansas State last weekend after the Red Wolves scored a try and a penalty kick in the final ten minutes to win 15-10. The Panthers will travel down to Lindenwood in St. Charles, Mo. for 1 p.m. kickoff.

SCOUTING LINDENWOOD

The Lions are in their first season of D1A Rugby after finishing the 2013 season as D1AA Rugby National Runner-ups after a 27-25 loss to Central Florida. Lindenwood comes into the weekend after a close loss of their own, as they fell 19-15 to Life University. The Lions are 1-2 on the season with both losses coming at the hands of Life and Arkansas State.

The Lions jumped up two spots in the national rankings after last weekend to move from sixth to fourth. James Poli is the only member on the Lindenwood roster to have multiple tries this season, as he has scored one in each of the conference games.

THE PANTHERS

Davenport is coming into this weekend with a 5-3 record this season and a 0-1 record in the Mid-South Conference after the loss to Arkansas State. Gabe Sochanek has six tries on the season to lead the team. Sochanek is also the only Panther to reach the 30-point threshold thus far. Sondai Adjei is knocking on the door of that 30-point threshold with 29 points this season. Adjei has three tries to go along with four conversion and two successful penalty kicks. Brady Gent has taken the majority of the conversions this season going 6-for-16.

Both Davenport and Lindenwood are seeking their first Mid-South Conference wins in school history. DU went 0-4 last season and is 0-1 this season, while Lindenwood is in their first season in the conference, and have lost both conference games they have played so far.

The Panthers will travel down to St. Charles, Mo. to face the fourth-ranked Lindenwood Lions on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
