OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – The Davenport cheer team competed in the second day of the STUNT National Championships. The Panthers started off the day with a 26-25 loss to defending champion Central Oklahoma, but rebounded with a 29-28 overtime victory over Oklahoma City to advance to the National Championship game. Davenport will face Central Oklahoma on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST in the championship game in Oklahoma City.
The Lady Panthers started the day off against the number one seed and defending champion Central Oklahoma. The Panthers and Bronchos battled back and forth in the first half of the game as DU had a slime 14-13 lead heading into halftime. Neither team let up in the second half as both teams took leads and Davenport led by one point heading into the final round of the fourth quarter. However, Central Oklahoma won the final round and took the game 26-25.
Central Oklahoma advanced to the championship game, while Davenport dropped down to the loser's bracket to face Oklahoma City, who beat Alma College to advance in the bracket.
Davenport found themselves in another close game against Oklahoma City, as the Stars took 14-12 lead heading into halftime. Oklahoma City continued to cling to a two-point lead as they led Davenport 21-19 heading into the fourth quarter. The Panthers tied the game going into the final round of the fourth quarter and neither team could break the tie, and the game went into overtime.
In overtime, DU was able to sneak past Oklahoma City as they won 29-28 to advance to the National Championship game.
In Davenport's first season competing in STUNT, they are now 5-1 and making their first appearance in STUNT National Championship game.
The Panthers will face off against a familiar foe in Central Oklahoma in the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m. EST in Oklahoma City, Okla.
