MARIETTA, Ga. – The seventh-ranked men's rugby team finished their road schedule at second-ranked Life University on Saturday.
Reece Czarnecki and
Sondai Adjei both scored one try each as the Panthers lost to the Running Eagles 30-15. Davenport is now 0-3 in the Mid-South Conference this season. The Panthers will return home for their first home game since September 27, when they host Arkansas State next Saturday at 1 p.m. on the DU Turf Field.
Life started the game with a penalty kick opportunity, but they could not score. In the tenth minute, the Running Eagles had another penalty kick chance and this time they capitalized to take an early 3-0 lead. Five minutes later, Life scored the first try of the game to take a 10-0 lead.
Nick Glocke had a penalty kick chance of his own to cut into the Life lead, but could not capitalize.
Reece Czarnecki got the Panthers on the board in the 25th minute with a try to make it a 13-5 game.
The Running Eagles scored their second penalty kick of the game, but Glocke converted on his second penalty kick of the game, as Life took a 13-8 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Life started the scoring with a try and followed it with a successful conversion to increase their lead to 20-8. In the 70th minute
Sondai Adjei tried to lead the Davenport comeback with a try and Glocke made his first conversion of the match to cut the lead to five points. However, Life scored another penalty kick and closed out the scoring with a try and a conversion to beat Davenport 30-15.
The Panthers are now 5-5 on the season and drop to 0-3 in the Mid-South Conference. Life remains undefeated in conference play with a 3-0 record to stay atop the Mid-South.
Davenport will return home next Saturday when they host Arkansas State at 1 p.m. on the DU Turf Field, to start a three game home stretch to close out the regular season.
