Davenport Athletic NetworkGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The fifth-ranked Davenport men's rugby team will close out their regular season schedule with second-ranked Life University. After a last minute loss to Lindenwood last weekend, Davenport will look to grab their first win in the conference play against Life this weekend. Life has already clinched the Mid-South Conference title as they are 5-0 on the season. Kickoff for the Panthers final game of the regular season against Life University is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. on the DU Turf Field. Prior to kickoff the seniors will be honored on Senior Day.
SCOUTING LIFE Life comes into the weekend ranked second in the country, and is 5-0 in the Mid-South Conference. The Running Eagles clinched the conference championship last weekend with a 23-17 win over Arkansas State. Life is the defending D1A National Champions and is looking to repeat as they are undefeated in the season thus far. Joseph Crowley is leading the team in points as he has taken over the kicking duties for the team to lead them to their 5-0 record.
THE PANTHERS Davenport is looking to rebound after a tough loss to Lindenwood last weekend. The Panthers led the Lions 17-14 with less than two minutes left in the game, and Lincoln Magee of Lindenwood read Davenport's play and picked off the pass to take it the other way and scored a try to give Lindenwood a 21-17 lead with one minute left in regulation. Davenport was unable to score in the final minute as Lindenwood hung on to the win.
The Panthers are still in search of their first Mid-South Conference win as they enter the weekend at 0-5. Leading the way for the team has been freshman
Sondai Adjei with six tries and a total of 44 points. Sophomore,
Brady Gent, has filled in for JP Eloff nicely this season. Gent has 43 points on the year including nine conversions, five penalty kicks and a two tries.
The Panthers will host Life on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the DU Turf Field in their final regular season game of the year. Prior to the game, head coach Kruger VanBiljon will honor his seniors in their final home game on Senior Day.
