SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – After not be able to deliver a clutch hit against San Diego Christian Tuesday, the Davenport baseball team still couldn't find that big knock it was looking for 24 hours later, and it proved costly. Trailing by one in the ninth, British Columbia rallied in the final frame by quickly loading the bases and using an RBI single followed by a hit-by-pitch to walk away with a 4-3 win and end Davenport's historic 2014 season at the NAIA Opening Round Wednesday.

Davenport finishes the campaign with a program-best 42-17 and its first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference championship.

After leaving 13 runners against San Diego Christian, the Panthers tallied 11 hits and drew four walks but stranded a dozen on base.

Corey Sessions was credited a no decision but carried the Panthers into the seventh inning, allowing the two runs on a home run in the sixth while striking out three. Jonathan Cheshire (5-1) suffered his first collegiate loss after being responsible for the game-tying and winning run in the ninth.

The Panthers got on the board in the fourth inning when EJ Grochowalski hit a leadoff double and scored during a double-play. The second and third runs arrived in the following inning. Zac Wilson reached on a fielding error to leadoff the frame, moved to second on Cody Greear's single and scored on Derek Dennis' double to left center. Greear would score on Grochowalski's sacrifice fly to center.

Trailing by one, British Columbia's (35-12) began its ninth-inning rally with a single and a double to put the tying and winning run in scoring position. After an intentional walk to load the bases, Ryan Butzer tried to stop the threat but an RBI single followed by a hit-by-pitch ended the Panthers season.

Post-Game Notes
Davenport loses the first meeting with British Columbia…While making playing their third game in the national tournament, the Panthers are 8-10 postseason including the WHAC Tournament…Davenport's offense racked up 22 hits but stranded 25 runners in the last two games
