GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 2014 men's soccer campaign kicks off this weekend when head coach Chris Hughes takes his No. 21 ranked Panthers down to Alabama to face No. 25 Belhaven and No. 2 Auburn Montgomery. The Panthers are coming off a 19-3 campaign that saw them post a perfect 10-0 mark in conference play and advance to the NAIA National Tournament for the second time in program history.

Scouting Belhaven – 0-0-0, 0-0-0 SSAC– Head coach Carl Griffiths (First season)
First year head coach Carl Griffiths takes over one of the elite NAIA programs in the country. His Belhaven Blazers begin the season ranked No. 25 and are just two years removed from winning the national championship. Griffiths and his team were picked fifth in the powerful SSAC (Southern States Athletic Conference). The Blazers landed at the 25th position to open 2014 after a 16-7-1 record a season ago. Belhaven earned their sixth consecutive trip to the NAIA National Tournament but ultimately fell to eventual National Champion Martin Methodist in the round of eight.

Scouting Auburn Montgomery – 1-0-0, 0-0-0 SSAC– Head coach Wulf Koch  (8th season)
The Warhawks began their regular season with a 4-0 victory over Texas Wesleyan last week. The returning national runners-up in the NAIA will play Wayland Baptist on Saturday before meeting DU on Monday. AUM was led in their season opening win by Alan Harwell who posted a pair of goals.
