GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – After dropping the opening set to visiting Siena Heights, the No. 24 ranked volleyball team picked up its play to run away with a 3-1 victory over the Saints. DU took the second set by a commanding 25-10 before closing out the visitors 25-21, 25-19 to improve to 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in conference action. The Panthers will head to Livonia on Friday and Saturday to take part in the Julie Martin Memorial Classic hosted by Madonna University.
Looking to extend their home-court winning streak to 16 and start the league slate off with a win, the Panthers came out slow in the opening set as Siena Heights hit at a .318 clip to win 25-21. DU responded in a big way in the second as they claimed a 25-10 win highlighted by a combined eight kills from
Krissy Dill and
Marcey DeHaan.
The Panthers then took full control of the match by jumping out to a big lead in the third before holding off a late Saints rally to win 25-21 and closed out the match 25-19 in the fourth.
Krissy Dill led all players with 13 kills while
Marcey DeHaan finished with 12 and
Hannah Stone 11.
Amber Getty dished out 43 assists to go along with seven digs while freshman
Morgan Torres was tops with 16 defensive pick-ups.
Hannah Stone led the blocking effort with two solo and five assist blocks.
The Panthers will head to Madonna University over the weekend to compete in the Julie Martin Memorial Classic in which they start play at 2 p.m. on Friday against the University of Windsor.
