RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Dzenan Catic was held scoreless in Davenport's big 3-1 win over No. 4 Ashford on Friday night but the All-American could only be held down for so long as the junior broke out for a hat-trick in the opening half lifting the Panthers to a 5-0 romp of Mobile (Ala.). The Panthers complete the weekend 2-0 and outscored their opponents 8-2 as they will be in action next Friday down at Indiana Wesleyan against Bethel (Ind.).
The first four matches for the men's soccer team featured three NAIA Top-25 foes and one receiving votes and after a 5-0 win over the Rams from Mobile (Ala.) today, the Panthers sit at a perfect 4-0.
Dzenan Catic recorded his first hat-trick of the season and third in the last two seasons to help the Panthers take a commanding 3-0 lead at the break. His goals were assisted by
Chad Gordon (twice) and
TJ Ifaturoti.
After Mobile dug themselves further into the hole with an own-goal early in the second half, DU finished the scoring when
Dino Duratovic recorded his second goal in as many matches to finish the Panther scoring. Mobile was able to get on the board in the final minute but DU posted the 5-1 win.
Davenport will continue their road stretch next weekend when they head to Indiana Wesleyan to face Bethel (Friday night) and the host Wildcats on Saturday.
Post-Match NotesThe hat-trick for Catic is his third in two seasons and ninth multi-goal contest…The Panthers have posted wins in their first four matches of the year for the first time in program history as the previous best start was 3-0 in 2013
