Dimmitt Shines In Panther Debut, But D1 Hockey Falls 3-2 At Home

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Davenport division one hockey team fell to the University of Michigan-Dearborn Saturday night 3-2 in game that came down to a shootout. The Panthers were lead by newcomer Cameron Dimmitt who was responsible for both Davenport goals, with the second one coming with 27 seconds left in regulation.  The Panthers will be back in action this Thursday where they will take on the University of Buffalo. The puck is set to drop at 8:30 p.m.
 
The first period saw aggressive attacking from both sides of the puck as each time saw several scoring opportunities, but were unable to cash in, sending the two teams into the locker room with scoreless after one.
 
In the second period, Michigan-Dearborn struck first as Andrew Palushaj found the back of the net just 4:17 into the game to take a 1-0 lead. Davenport would respond with a goal of their with 4:14 left in the period as newcomer Cameron Dimmitt scored on a power play to send the game into the second break tied at 1-1. The Goal was Dimmitt's first as a panther in his first game playing with Davenport after transferring from Indiana Tech at the end of last semester.
 
After strong defensive displays from both teams in most of the third period, Michigan-Dearborn took a late lead thanks to the stick of Eric Rosteck. It was anything but over though as Dimmitt knocked in his second goal of the contest with 27 seconds left to send the game into overtime.
 
After both teams were unable find the back of the net in overtime, the game went into a shootout where Davenport came up short, losing 4-3.
 
The Panthers (12-9-1-3) will return to the Patterson Ice Center next week for three games total starting Thursday night against the University of Buffalo. Davenport will then host Oakland University on Jan. 16 & 17th.
