GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After beating Michigan-Dearborn in the first game of the weekend series Davenport was able to complete the weekend sweep of the Wolverines with a 5-1 win on Saturday night. The Panthers had five different goal scorers in the game, as DU moves to 18-10-1-4 on the season. Next up for Davenport is a home-and-home series with Eastern Michigan.

To start the game, Davenport was able put pressure on the Michigan-Dearborn net minder but the Panthers were unable to score in first period as they score was tied 0-0 heading into the first intermission. In all three meetings between Davenport and Michigan-Dearborn, neither team was able to score in the first period of any game.

After a scoreless first period, the second game of the weekend started to mirror the first game played on Friday as Davenport finally broke the ice with 9:48 left in the second period as Jordan Simmonds was able to slam home a back door goal as Chris Eckler and Kody Polin grabbed the assists on the goal. The combo of Eckler, Simmonds and Polin struck again just 11 seconds later as Eckler picked up the goal. Michigan-Dearborn was able to score 1:49 later to cut the lead to just one, but Everett Thompson was able to give Davenport a 3-1 lead heading into the third period as he snuck the puck into the net to cap off the period.

The Panthers continued to roll in the second period as Mason Bohlinger was able to find the back of the back after he jammed home a loss puck after Tyler Ploeg hit the post. Stephen Flood capped of the scoring in the game as he finally was able to convert one his scoring chances as Bohlinger picked up an assist along with Aaron Beally, as Matt Kaludis picked up the win in net.

Head coach Phil Sweeney shared his thoughts on the weekend against Michigan-Dearborn, "It was much needed, we needed to sweep these guys to improve our spot heading into the National Tournament."
