GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport D1 hockey team continued the strong second semester as they rolled past Eastern Michigan 7-1.
Matt Kaludis made 22 save in net to grab his ninth win of the season, while
Kody Polin and
Everett Thompson each scored two goals in the game and
Josh Munford tallied four assists. Davenport and Eastern Michigan will conclude the home-and-home series in Ypsilanti, Mich., on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Davenport got off to a strong in the game as
Everett Thompson got the Panthers on the board just 1:48 into the first period of a feed from
Josh Munford and
Matt Ogden. Davenport continued to put pressure on the Eastern Michigan defense as
Kody Polin was able to pick up the puck in the slot and beat the Easter Michigan net minder with 15:51 left in the first period. The Panthers had few scoring chances at the midway point in the period, but they could not capitalize DU led 2-0 after the first period.

Davenport was able to kill of two penalties in the first five minutes of the second period and the Panthers kept up the momentum after the two penalty kills, as
Mason Bohlinger score a power play goal with 12:06 left in the period and Thompson scored his second goal of the night just 49 seconds later to give the Panthers a 4-0 lead.

The Panthers continued to roll in the second period Polin was able to jam home a loose puck for his second goal of the game, and Ogden scored his first goal of the night to cap off the scoring in the second period as Davenport took a 6-0 lead into the second intermission.

Eastern Michigan started the third period with a power play just 1:29 into the period to cut into the Davenport lead, but the Eagles could not get any closer as
Tyler Ploeg scored the final goal of the game as Munford grabbed his fourth assist in the game to lead Davenport to a 7-1 win over Eastern Michigan.

After the game head coach
Phil Sweeney talked about his team's performance in the game, "It was very dominant, and it was one of the best games I have seen us play all year. The first 12 minutes was unbelievable, we wanted to get off to a good start and that is what we did and we never let up after that."

The Panthers will head to Ypsilanti, Mich., on Saturday night to conclude the home-and-home series with Eastern Michigan for a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.
