DETROIT, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team returned to action on Monday evening in just their third conference road game of the season against Marygrove. After trailing at halftime, the Panthers used a strong second half en route to 94-71 win over the Mustangs.
Dominez Burnett and
Bishop Robinson combined for 40 points and 21 rebounds to lead Davenport. DU will continue their road stretch to start the New Year as they travel to Lawrence Tech on Wednesday night at 8 p.m.
Dominez Burnett led the Panther offense with 23 points and chipped in with 10 rebounds to cap off his double-double, while
Bishop Robinson had 17 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double.
Dawid Czerniawski and
Nick Gamble rounded out the Panther scorers in double figures with 13 and ten points, respectively.
In the first half both teams battled back and forth to start the game as neither team could take a lead more than three points in the first ten minutes of play. Marygrove jumped out their largest lead in the half at 26-19 with 6:52 left in the half. The Panthers started to cut into the lead, but the Mustangs were able to hold the lead the remainder of the half as Marygrove took a 38-36 lead into the locker room.
The second half started the same as the first, with both teams trading baskets, but the Panthers took their first lead since the 13:57 mark in the first half, as
Nick Gamble made a free throw with 16:10 to give DU a 45-44 lead. The Mustangs regained the lead, but Davenport used a 19-0 run to take a 64-49 lead with 11:14 left in regulation. After the Panthers took a 15 point lead over the Mustangs, Marygrove tried to claw back into the game, but the Panthers were able to jump to their largest lead of the game, 87-62 with 2:20 left in regulation, and the Panthers went on to win the game 94-71.
The Panthers will return to action on Wednesday night to face WHAC foe Lawrence Tech in Southfield, Mich., at 8 p.m.

Bishop Robinson set a new career-high with 11 rebounds to lead the team… This is the first time all season that the Panthers broke the 90 point barrier and first time since January 15th last season against Marygrove in Grand Rapids… Davenport grabbed 50 rebounds in the game, which was just the second time all season the Panthers grabbed at least 50 boards.
