GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team will continue their road schedule to start 2015 as they play their third road game in six days. DU will face Concordia, who has a half game lead over the Panthers in the WHAC. Concordia and Davenport are the only two teams in the WHAC with one loss, but the Cardinals have one extra win and sit at 9-1, as the Panthers are 8-1 in conference play. Live Stats A Quick Look at Concordia – 10-5, 9-1 WHAC – Head Coach Ricky YahnThe Cardinals enter the weekend with a 9-1 record to lead the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference by a half game of Davenport. The Cardinals lone WHAC defeat came at the hands of Aquinas in Grand Rapids to start their conference schedule. After starting the season 0-4, Concordia has won 10 of their last 11 games, with their only loss coming on the road to Saint Francis (Ind.), who is currently ranked ninth in the NAIA DII Polls. Andrew Patrick and Josh Fugate lead the Cardinals in scoring as Patrick scores 16.4 points per game and Futgate puts up 14.7 points per game. As a team Concordia scores an average of 67.3 points per game, but they allow their opponents to score 67.5 points per game. This season the Cardinals are a perfect 5-0 at home this season.
Panthers vs. CardinalsThe Cardinals lead the all-time series between Davenport and Concordia as they hold a slim 11-10 lead in the 21 all-time meetings between the two programs. The Cardinals have won the first nine meetings between Davenport and Concordia, but since
Burt Paddock took over as head coach of Davenport, the Panthers have won 10 of the last 12 meetings. The last time the Cardinals came away with a win over the Panthers was on January 9, 2013, in Ann Arbor when Concordia was able to edge out Davenport with a 66-63 win.
The Last Time Against the CardinalsThe last time Davenport and Concordia met was on February 12th last year in Ann Arbor. The Panthers and Cardinals battled to back-and-forth in the first half as the teams went into the locker tied 29-29. The Panthers came out strong in the second half to score 42 points in the half, while holding the Cardinals to just 25 points in the half. Davenport shot 50.9 percent from the field, and held Concordia to just 34.6 percent from the field, as the Panthers were able to move to 22-5 on the season with a 71-54 win over the Cardinals.
