Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Davenport men's Division I hockey squad completed a big weekend sweep of Liberty on Saturday with a 6-3 win improving to 7-0-0-1 on the season. The Panthers opened up on fire and scored the first five goals of the game.
Matt Ogden scored first at 1:33 from
Aaron Beally and
Chris Eckler.
Kody Polin made it 2-0 at 6:43 of the first on the power play from
Jordan Simmonds.
The second period was more of the same with three goals by the Panthers before Liberty could get on the board. Simmonds scored at 7:38 from
Cameron Dimmitt and
Cody Walsh. Beally scored unassisted at 13:05 and Polin made it 5-0 just 23 seconds later on the power play from Simmonds. Liberty would score the next three goals to make it interesting at 5-3. The Panthers would add an empty-net goal at 19:21 as Ogden netted the goal from Beally.
"It was a great weekend for us," said head coach
Phil Sweeney. "We were clicking on every aspect of the game. The guys played very hard and competitive hockey all weekend long. You can't sweep a team as good as Liberty without everyone playing at a high level."
