SYLVANIA, Ohio – The women's volleyball team began their postseason play Friday afternoon as they took on Cornerstone University in the WHAC quarterfinals. The Panthers entered the tournament as the sixth seed after they finished their regular season with a 21-18, 13-9 record while the Golden Eagles entered as the third seed following a 26-10,15-7 season.
DU looked to jump out on Cornerstone as they carried a 20-17 lead late in the first set. This lead slipped away as the Golden Eagles managed to score eight of the final 10 points in the set to take the 1-0 match lead. The Panthers relied on
Morgan Torres defensively to keep them in the match as she posted a season-high 26 digs. DU would look to hold the Golden Eagles off after Cornerstone took the second set by a narrow 25-21 margin.
Molly Lameyer would lead the Panther attack as she went on to compile 13 kills to lead the team.
Sydney Tracer added 23 assists as DU battled the Golden Eagles to the final points in the third set. Cornerstone would push past DU with the final two points to break the 23-23 tie and take the match 3-0. This loss leaves the overall record for DU in 2015 at 21-19.Â
