GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The No. 9 Davenport men's Division I hockey team scored three times in the third period on Thursday night for a 5-3 win over visiting No. 21 Liberty to improve to 11-2-0-1. Five different players scored for the Panthers as they gave up two power play goals in the first period and trailed 3-2 after 20 minutes.
Cameron Dimmitt scored his fourth of the season 48 seconds into the game with an assist from
Stephen Flood.
Alyx Fonseca scored his fourth of the season at 9:13 from
Michael Lozicki and
Alex Hulford. Liberty scored the last two goals of the period as Chase Harris (11:18) and Danny Logan (16:35 PPG) gave the Flames a one-goal lead.
Kody Polin scored his eighth of the season to tie the game at 12:16 of the third period from Dimmitt and Flood.
Jordan Simmonds scored the game-winner just 36 seconds later from
Matt Ogden and
Aaron Beally.
Chris Eckler added an empty-net goal with 19 seconds left unassisted for his fourth goal of the season. Davenport had 37 shots on goal including 19 in the third period. Liberty went 2-for-4 on the power play while the Panthers were 0-for-2.
Matt Kaludis made 23 saves for DU and improved to 8-1 in net.
