Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport men's basketball team lived up to their No. 3 national ranking on Wednesday night with a 109-54 win over Grace Bible College. The Panthers showed fire from the opening tip and quickly raced out to a 16-0 lead before the Tigers knew what hit them.
John McCloud led off the game with a fast-break dunk and moments later it was
Dominez Burnett throwing one down for an 8-0 lead just 2:55 into the contest. Burnett scored again on a fast-break and then
Wayne Bradford canned a triple for a 13-0 advantage at the 16:02 mark.
Wes Webbert got into the action off the bench with a three of his own for a 16-0 lead before the Tigers got a jumper by Grant Garrison at the 14:18 mark.
It didn't stop there for the Panthers as they continued to scorch the nets making 6-of-8 from three-point land to start the game. The lead ballooned to 29-3 with 11:47 left in the opening half after a triple by
Nick Gamble. The Tigers hit double-digits with 8:39 to go in the half on a three-point play by Gabe Baric (34-10).
Braima Hai connected on a jumper with 5:05 remaining to push the lead over 30 at 42-11. The Panthers led 48-25 at the break and scored 18 points in the paint in the first half.
The Panthers pushed the lead back over 30 at 15:19 of the second half on a three-point play by Bradford. The lead grew to over 40 at 75-33 with 11:24 to go in the contest after a thunder jam by Webbert on a fast-break opportunity. The reserves also got into the score sheet late as
Jacob Brown scored his first collegiate basket with 2:17 left.
Carter Heminger nailed a three with 1:51 to go and
Connor Heminger made a hoop with 1:13 to play.
Burnett the reigning NAIA DII Player of the Year scored 27 points and dished out a career-high eight assists. He currently stands at 1,990 career points and no other Panther as scored more in their career. Burnett was 8-of-13 from the floor and 10-of-12 at the charity stripe.
Jason Jordan scored 14 points off the bench, two shy of his career-high. He also tied a career-high with seven rebounds and made three triples in 21 minutes. Bradford playing in his first game at DU scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds. Gamble added 11 points and five assists in 19 minutes. DU shot 62.1 percent (36-of-58) from the floor including 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from behind the arc. They also connected on 26-of-35 from the free throw line. Grace Bible shot 32 percent (16-of-50) from the floor and 4-of-22 from the arc. Jared Bradford scored 19 points for the Tigers.
