Box Score ROCHESTER, Mich. - The Davenport men's Division I hockey team needed a shootout on Saturday at Oakland for a 3-2 win over the Golden Grizzlies to earn the weekend sweep. Davenport (9-1-0-1) was playing with only nine forwards and five defensemen due to some injuries but still found a way to pull out a victory.
Jordan Simmonds scored at 8:00 of the first period unassisted and then
Michael Lozicki scored at 17:25 of the third from
Adam Goudelock and
Everett Thompson. The Panthers outshot the Golden Grizzlies 36-31 for the contest. Oakland trailing 2-1 scored the tying goal at 18:26 and then Davenport had good scoring chances in overtime but could not break the tie. Oakland could have won the game in regulation but
Matt Kaludis stopped a penalty shot and finished with 29 saves. In the shootout, Simmonds and
Alyx Fonseca scored for the Panthers while Kaludis yielded just one goal.
"I was very impressed with our team's resiliency this weekend," said head coach
Phil Sweeney. "We have been battling injuries and everyone logged a ton of ice time. Wins like this pay huge dividends at the end of the season. More importantly, we secured the second win in the DUck series and both of those were league wins. The guys emptied their tanks and battled for a great team win."
