GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers saw an early fight Saturday afternoon with the visiting Gray Wolves as they looked to advance their win streak to nine games in 2015-16 and keep themselves perfect in WHAC action.
DU saw an early seven-point lead after the first quarter, and built on that as the game went on as they stretched their lead to as many as 36 points before they took Lourdes down by an 87-54 final score.
Tiesha Stokes was the answer for the Panthers in the first half as she would go 7-for-9 from the field and total 15 points.
Alex Law would contribute with 12 points in the first half with two big three-point shots that helped maintain the Panther lead as she would go 5-for-7 from the floor.
The Panthers extended their lead from a 43-26 halftime score to as many as 36 points behind
Momo Neal who came off of the bench to total 10 second half points to lead all scorers after the break. DU would fight off any attempts by the Gray Wolves to get back into the game with an 8-0 run in the third quarter that extended the Panther lead from 14 points to 22.
DU would not look back as their relentless defense forced 30 turnovers for the game and converted those into 40 points. DU would win the game on the glass (41-35) and in the paint (46-30) as they advanced to 9-2, 7-0 on the season. The Panthers would see four player reach double-digits in scoring led by Stokes who totaled 17 to accompany seven rebounds.
The Panthers will see action next at the Cruzin' Classic in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida with a pair of games that will include a matchup with current No. 1 Xavier University (Ill.).Â
