BENSENVILLE, Ill. - It was a very positive weekend for the women's hockey team as they got a tie and win at Robert Morris (Ill.) and now stand at 5-11-1 overall. The Panthers and Eagles played a pair of low-scoring, defensive games and Davenport proved they could hang with a winning team on the road.
"I am very impressed with the effort the team gave us this weekend. From top to bottom, everyone contributed in their own way. This was a big CCWHA league weekend for the team going into Winter break. As a coaching staff, we couldn't be more proud of the girls and they should be proud of their effort. I look forward to seeing this team progress in the second half of the season."
Allyson Zachwieja scored just 58 seconds into the game on Friday night for the Eagles but Davenport kept it close and got the tying goal at 9:04 of the second as
Patsy Howe scored her first of the season from Tori Dubuc and
Caitlin Dunne. Robert Morris edged out the Panthers, 46-30, in shots on goal and both teams combined to go 0-for-7 on the power play.
Karley Ferguson stopped 25-of-26 shots on Saturday in a 2-1 win for DU. Robert Morris had 14 shots in the second and seven more in the third that were moved aside by Ferguson. The Eagles struck first at 11:10 of the opening period as Makaila Anderson gave her team a 1-0 lead. Davenport responded just 37 seconds later as
Adrienne Porcalla scored her ninth of the season unassisted.
