Panthers Sweep Northern Michigan Running Win Streak to Six

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The men's Division II hockey team entered this weekend with four straight wins and pushed that to six with a pair of victories over Northern Michigan. The Panthers scored a 6-1 win on Friday and followed that on Saturday with a 6-0 shutout of the Wildcats.

Donald Sund recorded a hat trick in the first game with one assist. He scored all of those at even strength with one in the second and two more in the third. Dugan Kelly scored the only first period goal at 5:49 from Daniel Swink and Kyle McConnell. Sund, Branden Burton and NMU's Gavin Porter scored in the second period. Sund scored the first two goals of the third followed by Blake Damerow. The Wildcats were 1-for-7 on the power play while Davenport was 1-for-5.

Sund scored two more times on Saturday and added another assist. He now has a team-leading 23 points with 15 goals and eight assists. Chris McRae scored first for DU at 8:39 of the first period. Damerow scored unassisted at 8:15 of the second. Austin Flores made it 3-0 at 9:05 from Sund. Jessee Game and Burton assisted on the next two goals respectively by Sund at 12:40 and 18:08. Marc Rotondo scored the last goal at 18:48 of the third from Brandon Bihn. Christian Thompson won both games in net moving to 7-5 with a 2.63 goals-against average on the year.

"I'm happy with our performance this weekend," said head coach Chris Green. "It was great seeing our guys play at a high level even after our long break. We will continue to work hard going into next week as this is a big two weeks for us."
