Kent State on Tap for D1 Hockey in Regular Season Finale

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After sweeping Eastern Michigan last weekend, the Davenport D1 hockey team will host Kent State in a weekend series at Patterson Ice Center. The Panthers and Golden Flashes will face off in the Panthers final regular season games of the season, with Saturday night being Senior Night, where the team will honor their seniors prior to their season finale. The series will start on Friday night at Patterson Ice Center at 8:30 p.m.

Scouting Kent State
 
The Golden Flashes come into the weekend with a 15-16-0-0 record on the season and are coming into the weekend after sweeping Michigan-Dearborn on the road last weekend. The Golden Flashes will also conclude their regular season this weekend before they head into the GLCHL tournament next weekend. Jonathan Buttitta leads the team with 30 assists and 43 points on the season, while Chance Taylor is the leading goal scorer on the team with 18 this year. Zachary Nowak and Sky Buller have played the majority of games in net this season as Nowak leads the team with a .894 save percentage and a 3.80 goals against average.
 
The Panthers
 
Davenport is coming into the weekend after sweeping Eastern Michigan last weekend as they picked up their 20th win of the season in the process. After tallying a hat-trick last Saturday Jordan Simmonds is the first Panther this season to score 20 goals to lead the team, while Kody Polin leads the team with 35 points on the season. Chris Eckler continues to lead the way in assists with 23. Matt Kaludis and Clayton Brown each grabbed a win last weekend as they have combined for a .899 save percentage and a 2.66 goals against average.
 
GLCHL Outlook
 
With the GLCHL tournament on the horizon, Adrian locked up the first seed and the first round bye in the tournament, along with the conference's automatic bid to nationals. Davenport clinched the second seed in the tournament and will face seventh seed, Eastern Michigan in the opening round of the tournament. Seeds three through six are all still up for grabs as Oakland currently holds the three seed, followed by host Western Michigan, then Michigan-Dearborn and Kent State is in sixth place.
