Story Links

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team returned home on Saturday afternoon as they face Concordia in a their second to last home game of the season. Dominez Burnett led all scorers with 16 points in the game, as Davenport went on to win 81-33. The Panthers tied a DU Student Center record as they allowed the Cardinals to score just 33 points in the game. Davenport will be back in action on Wednesday night as they travel to Ohio to face Lourdes.

With the win on Saturday afternoon, the Panthers still hold a one game lead in the WHAC over Cornerstone after they beat Marygrove on the road, and Northwestern Ohio after they won at Indiana Tech.

Burnett led the Panther offense with 16 points, while Jason Jordan chipped in with 13 points off the bench. Dawid Czerniawski recorded his first career double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds. The Panthers held the Cardinals to 33 points, which tied a DU Student Center record for fewest points allowed in a game and it is the fewest points Davenport allowed this season. The Davenport defense also allowed Concordia to shoot just 23.1 percent from the field, which is also another season low for a Davenport opponent.

The Panthers came out strong to start the game as they went on 14-3 run in the first 5:35 of the game. Davenport continued to stretch their lead throughout the first half as they took a 31-10 lead with 8:08 left in the first half. Bishop Robinson hit a three-pointer just before the end of the first half to give Davenport a 49-16 lead heading into the half, which was also their largest lead of the half. DU shot 63.6 percent from the field in the first half as Burnett led all scorers at the break with nine points and Robinson had seven rebounds in the half.

The Davenport defense did not let up to start the second half as they only allow Concordia to score seven points in the first ten minute of the half, while the Panthers went on a 21-7 run in the first ten minutes of the half. Davenport allowed the Cardinals to score just 17 points the second half as the Panthers went on to win 81-33.

The Panthers will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon as they take on Lourdes in Sylvania, Ohio for their final road game of the regular season.

Post-Game Notes
The 16 points in the first half by Concordia is the second lowest point total that Davenport has allowed in either half all season with the lowest being 13 at Lawrence Tech on January 7th… Davenport tied a DU Student Center record for fewest points allowed with 33, which was previously set on November 6, 2009 when the Panthers allowed just 33 points to Kuyper College.
