GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It was senior night for the Davenport Division I hockey team, as well as their last game of the regular season in which the Panthers went on to defeat the Golden Flashes of Kent State by a score of 6-2.
Jordan Simmonds knocked in two goals in the victory, as Davenport finishes the regular season with a 22-10-1-4 record. Davenport will face Eastern Michigan next Friday in the first round of the GLCHL Tournament.
The Panthers came out in their final game of the season firing on all cylinders as
Stephen Flood,
Mason Bohlinger, and Simmonds all found the back of the net in the first period, with Simmonds' goal coming with just a minute remaining. Kent State was also able to tally a goal of their own, making it 3-1 heading into the first intermission.
Davenport didn't stop with their lethal offensive assault as
Chris Eckler and
Kody Polin tallied goals for the Panthers in the period, as well as Simmonds knocking in his second of the game and 23
rd of the year.
Defense became the focus for both teams in the third period, as neither team was able to find the back of the net, resulting in a final score in the game of 6-2 in favor of the Panthers.
Matt Kaludis had himself a quality game between the net, recording 14 saves on 16 shots on goal.
With the Panthers regular season officially at an end, Davenport will shift their focus to the GLCHL Tournament, which begins next Friday against Eastern Michigan.
