D1 Hockey Beats Eastern Michigan 7-1 in First Round of GLCHL Tourney

Box Score BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – The Davenport D1 hockey team began their postseason run on Friday evening in the opening round of the GLCHL Tournament. Jordan Simmonds and Travis White scored two goals each for the Panthers in a five goal second period to lead the Panthers to 7-1 win over Eastern Michigan. The Panthers will compete in one semifinal in the conference tournament against the winner of the Western Michigan and Michigan-Dearborn at 5:30 p.m. in Battle Creek, Mich.
 
In a slow start to the game, the Panthers were able to score 4-on-4 after Cody Walsh was able to beat the Eastern Michigan net minder to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
 
In the second period, Davenport was able to create some separation from Eastern Michigan as they scored five goals in the second period. Cameron Dimmitt got the scoring started in the second period for the Panthers, and Jordan Simmonds scored back-to-back on the same shift to give Davenport a 4-0 lead. Travis White scored twice in the second period to cap off the scoring in the period to give Davenport a 6-0 lead heading into the third period.
 
In the final stanza, Kody Polin was able to score for the Panthers on the power play to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead, but the Eagles were able to slip one past Matt Kaludis to cap off the game, as Davenport won the game 7-1. Kaludis picked up his 11th win in net this season as the Panthers move on to the GLCHL semifinals.
 
In the first game of the tournament, Kent State was able to upset Oakland, and Kent State will now move on to face the number one seed in the tournament Adrian on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
 
Davenport will now face the winner of the Michigan-Dearborn and Western Michigan game on Saturday evening at 5:30 p.m. in Battle Creek, Mich., at the Revolution Ice Center.
