GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's basketball team wrapped up their 2014-15 regular season on Saturday afternoon as they hosted Marygrove on Senior Day at the DU Student Center.
Daina Grazulis led the second-ranked Panthers with 21 points and eight rebounds as Davenport went onto to beat Marygrove 96-42 to conclude their regular season with 28-0 overall record and 22-0 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
The Panthers will head into the conference tournament as the first seed with home court advantage. The league office is waiting for the conclusion of the Siena Heights-Aquinas game Sunday afternoon to complete the seedings for the WHAC Tournament. The first of three rounds begins Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
On Senior Day at the DU Student Center, the senior tandem of Grazulis and
Linnea Brandholm led the Panther offense with a combined 35 points and 14 rebounds. Grazulis went 7-for-13 from the floor, while Brandholm was 6-for-11.
The Lady Panthers started the game on a 10-2 run in the first 4:01 of the first half, but the Mustangs went on an 8-1 run to pull within in one point of the Panthers. Davenport closed the half on 32-7 run as they took a 43-17 lead into the half. DU shot 51.5 percent from the field as they held Marygrove to just 18.8 percent shooting in the half.
In the second half, Davenport continued to pull away as they went on an 11-0 run to start the half to take a 54-17 lead with 15:30 left in the second half. Davenport shot the ball well the remainder of the half as they shot 56.8 percent from the field in the half to finish the game shooting 54.3 percent in the game en route to a 96-42 win over Marygrove.
Post-Game NotesThe Lady Panthers will enter the conference tournament for the ninth straight season as the number one overall seed… Davenport was three rebounds short of tying their season high of 60 rebounds, which was set in the first meeting between Davenport and Marygrove… The Lady Panthers were also two assists and three steals shy of tying season bests.
