No. 23 Softball Swept by No. 4 Lindsey Wilson in Home Opener

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The No. 23 Davenport softball team opened its 2015 home campaign a week early Friday. KC Dunne had three hits, including two homers in both games, but it wasn't enough the Panthers were swept by fourth-ranked Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) 11-4 and 11-5 at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.
 
Alyssa Koziol also touched them all in game one with a three-run home run. In addition, she stretched a double in that game.
 
Davenport is remains home Saturday as they take on NCAA Division III's Alma at noon followed by Bluffton at 6 p.m.
 
Game 1 – Lindsey Wilson 11, Davenport 4
Although the Blue Raiders (14-3) struck first by scoring two runs within the first two innings, Davenport (14-3) evened the score in the fourth inning when Sarah Schneidenbach drew a one-out walk to setup a two-run shot by Dunne into left.
 
Lindsey Wilson regained the lead using a leadoff single, a walk and two sacrifices in the fifth. It added three more in the sixth with a double, a single and a bases-loaded walk. The game would be put out of the Panthers reach in the seventh when the Blue Raiders scored five runs including a grand slam.
 
Emily Maves (7-2) took the loss after allowed six runs on six hits and nine walks in 5 2/3 innings.
 
Game 2 – Lindsey Wilson 11, Davenport 5
The Blue Raiders quickly jumped on the board right away when a Panther error on the leadoff hitter set up a two-run shot. Lindsey Wilson would get two more across in the inning with a two-run double.
 
Already trailing 8-1 heading into the home half of the sixth, the Panthers tried to rally back in with two homers in the inning. Dunne opened the frame with a blast to center and Koziol delivered a three-run shot to right center.
 
However, the Blue Raiders got the three runs back in the seventh highlighted by a two-run homer.
 
Alyssa Eastman (7-2) was charged with eight runs, five earned, on a dozen hits. Maves had a short outing facing seven batters and only retiring two. She allowed three runs on four hits a walk.
