No. 8 Men’s Basketball Falls to No. 5 Dakota Wesleyan in Fab Four

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – The Davenport men's basketball team made their second appearance in program history in the NAIA Fab Four on Monday night. Dominez Burnett tied his career-high with 32 points in the game to lead the Panthers, but Davenport lost to Dakota Wesleyan, 80-51. DU concludes their season with a 30-7 record, which is the second highest win total in program history.
 
Burnett capped off his season with a double-double scoring 32 of the teams 51 points in the game along with grabbing 11 rebounds. The 32 points by Burnett tied his career-high, which he set on February 4th at home against Lawrence Tech.
 
The Tigers started the game strong as they went on 22-8 in the first 8:30 of the game. Davenport started to chip away at the Dakota Wesleyan lead as cut the lead to 27-21 with 7:09 left in the half, but the Tigers pulled away once again as they took a 43-29 lead into the half. In the first half the Panthers struggled from the field as they shot just 30.3 percent from the field, while the Tigers shot 46.7 percent from the field and were 6-for-14 from behind the arc.
 
In the second half, the Tiger continued to pull away as they took a 50-33 lead with 17:32 left in the second half. Davenport was unable to cut into the Tiger lead they pulled out to a 56-33 lead just three minutes later. The Panthers were held without a field goal in the final 7:40 of the game as they lost to Dakota Wesleyan, 81-50.
 
Davenport capped off their season with a record of 30-7, which is the second 30 win season in program history and the 30 wins by the Panthers is the second highest win total in program history.
 
Post-Game Notes
This is was the 12th time all season the Panthers were out-rebounded by their opponent and Davenport falls to 6-6 on the season when being out-rebounded…Davenport also drops to 6-6 when they allow their opponent to shot over 45 percent from the field… Burnett broke a tie with Nathan Cox for free throws made in a season as he finished the year with 214 on the year after going 5-for-5 from the line.
