GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – After being on the road for the first three games on the season, the second-ranked Davenport women's lacrosse had their home opener on Wednesday evening against Lourdes.
Paige VanWieren led the offensive attack for the Panthers with four goals and one assists, as Davenport beat Lourdes, 18-5 in their home opener. DU will be back in action on Saturday afternoon as they host Lawrence Tech at 1 p.m. on the DU Turf Field.
VanWieren tallied her second hat trick of the season with four goals in the game, while she chipped in with one assist.
Jessica Lemcke and
Hanna Bush also recorded hat tricks in the game with three goals apiece, while
Tara Pluger,
Sara Kuzava and
Taylor Balch each tallied a pair of goals to round out the DU players with multi goal games.
The Panthers got off to hot start as they scored twice in the first 1:08 of the game, before the Gray Wolves got on the board with 24:01 left in the first half to cut the Davenport lead to one. DU started to pull away as they scored the next four goals, and five of the final six goals in the first half as they took a 7-2 lead into the half.
To start the second half, Davenport continued to pull away in the second half as they went on a 4-0 run in the first 9:53 of the second half to stretch their lead to 11-2, before Lourdes scored their first goal of the half just 28 second later. After the Gray Wolves cut the Davenport lead to 11-3 with 19:33 left in the game, the Panthers outscored the Gray Wolves 7-2 the rest of the game, as Davenport grabbed their fourth win on the season, 18-5.
Davenport will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they host Lawrence Tech on the DU Turf Field in a battle of the top three teams in the NWLL.
