ADRIAN, Mich. – The Davenport women's lacrosse team returned to WHAC play on Wednesday night as they traveled to Adrian, Mich., to play Siena Heights. Brook Knoll and
Jessica Lemcke led the Panthers with three goals apiece, and DU went on to beat the Saints, 14-9. Davenport will return home on Saturday afternoon as they host crosstown rival Aquinas on the DU Turf Field at noon.
Knoll recorded her first hat-trick since the team's second game of the season on March 7th, when they faced Lourdes, while Lemcke tallied her sixth hat-trick of the season. The Panthers had eight different goal scorers in the game including Lecmcke and Knoll.
Samantha Powers picked up the win in net making nine saves against Siena Heights as she now has a record of 9-2 on the season.
To start the game, the Panthers went on a 4-0 run in the first 8:42 of the game, and each of the four goals was recorded by a different player for Davenport. The Saints finally got on the board with 16:00 left in the first half after they scored a goal on an extra attacker opportunity. The Panthers were able to stretch their lead to 6-1, but the Saints responded with two goals of their own, as the score was 6-3 in favor of Davenport with 11:02 left in the first half. Both teams traded goals the rest of the half, as Davenport led 8-5 after Siena Heights was able to score with one second left in the half.
The second half became a game of runs, as the Panthers scored two goals just 18 seconds apart as
Paige VanWieren and Lemcke gave the Panthers a 10-5 lead just 1:33 into the half. Siena Heights went on a 3-0 run to cut the Panther lead to 10-8 with 22:57 left in the regulation. However, the Saints could not get any closer as Davenport scored the next three goals and ended the game on 4-1 run to beat Siena Heights, 14-9.
The Panthers will return to action on Saturday when they host crosstown rival, Aquinas, at noon on the DU Turf Field in a battle of pair of top-ten teams in the NWLL.
