Story Links

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport women's lacrosse team returned home for the first time in the last five games as they host crosstown rival, Aquinas, in the final regular season meeting between the two teams. Davenport was led by Kaitlyn Lowden, who tallied six goals and chipped in with one assist as the Panthers beat Aquinas, 18-5. Davenport will be on the road for the final time this season as they travel to Southfield, Mich., to face Lawrence Tech on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Lowden scored six goals for the first time this season, while Taylor Balch tallied two goals and led the team with six assists, and this is the second time in as many games that Balch has recorded six assists in one game. Sara Kuzava chipped in with four goals and Brooke Knoll had three goals for the Panthers to conclude the DU players with hat-tricks.

Aquinas started the game strong out of the gate, as they corralled the first two draw controls of the game and went down and scored on both trips to take a 2-0 lead just 1:59 into the game. Davenport was able to rebounds as they went on a 9-0 run to take a 9-2 lead with 10:50 left in the first half. The Saints tallied one more goal to cut into the lead, but Kuzava was able to score once more for the Panthers, as DU led 10-3 at the half.

Davenport continued to pull away to start the second half as Knoll scored her third goal of the game just 24 second into the half, and the Panthers were able to score three more goals as DU led 14-3 with 23:52 left in second half. Aquinas stopped the Davenport run with 15:01 left in the second half, but the Panthers were able to score two goals as they were trying to kill off a yellow card. After Aquinas scored their final goal of the game to cut the Panthers lead to 16-5, but DU closed out the scoring in the game to win 18-5.

The Panthers will return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they head to Southfield, Mich., to face Lawrence Tech in the final road game of the season for Davenport.
