GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Bryan Larocque picked up his ninth hat trick of the season, while Kyle Topper and Jack Turcotte each recorded a pair of goals of their own as the no. 23 Davenport men's lacrosse team defeated Michigan State Saturday night on the DU Turf Field to claim an outright CCLA regular season title. With the win, the Panthers will now head into next weekend's CCLA tournament with the number one overall seed. The CCLA tournament will be held at the University of Pittsburgh next weekend on May 1^st and 2^nd.
 
Saturday's contest was a lot closer than the final score may show, as the contest stayed within a two-point lead up until the three-minute mark of the third period, as Bryan Larocque scored his first two goals of the game in the first period, matching Michigan State's Joey Kesseler and Jack Van Acker to give the contest a 2-2 tie at the end of the first period.
 
The Panthers would then find themselves trailing midway through the second period, until Jack Turcotte, Devon Benson, and Mitchell Clay would all find the back of the net to send the Panthers into halftime with a 6-4 lead.
 
After the Spartans cut the deficit to one from a Kevin Horton score just 1:36 into the third period, Kyle Topper and Parker Horvath would score back to back goals give the Panthers the biggest lead of the contest with an 8-5 lead at the end of three.
 
Larocaue notched his hat trick 2:02 into the fourth to give the Panthers a comfortable 9-5 lead, and although the Spartans were able to score two more goals in the contest, they never cut the Davenport lead less than three goals, resulting in an 11-7 final score.
 
Logan Poe was outstanding in the win; recording 13 saves on 20 shots on goal, and picked up his eighth win of the season.
 
The Panthers will head into next weekend's CCLA tournament with the number one overall seed, which will be held at the University of Pittsburgh on May 1^st and 2^nd.
