Story Links

BRIGHTON, Mich. – The Davenport women's lacrosse team entered the week looking to clinch at least a share of the WHAC regular season championship on Wednesday against Lawrence Tech. Kaitlyn Lowden led the Panthers with five goals, but Lawrence Tech was able to score late in the second half to send the game into overtime, where the Blue Devils were able to edge out Davenport, 19-18. The Panthers will return to action on Saturday afternoon as they host Indiana Tech in a battle of the top two teams in the WHAC.

The Panthers had five players score multiple goals in the game, as Lowden led Davenport with five goals and Jessica Lemcke was right behind her with four goals against Lawrence Tech. Brooke Knoll and Sara Kuzava each recorded hat-tricks, while Taylor Balch scored two goals and led the team with six assists for the third straight game.

In the first half, Lawrence Tech tallied the first goal of the game just one minute in, but Knoll was able to tie the game 37 second later off a pass from Balch. The teams then trade goals as the game was tied 2-2 with 26:26 left in the first half, and Davenport tried to pull away scoring the next three goals to lead 5-2 with 24:59 left in half. The Blue Devils closed the half on 5-2 run as they were able to tie the game 7-7, heading into halftime.

Davenport started the second half scoring in the first 26 seconds, but neither team could pull away in the early going as the Panthers led 13-12 with 13:04 left in regulation. DU then rattled off the next four goals to take a 17-12 lead with 5:43 left, but the Blue Devils went on 5-0 run to end the second half and force an overtime period.

Davenport broke the 17-17 tie with 4:19 left in the game on Lemcke's final goal of the match, but the Blue Devils were able to score the final two goals of the game to win 19-18.

The Panthers will look to rebound on Saturday as they host Indiana Tech in a battle of the top teams in the WHAC. The opening draw is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at the DU Turf Field.
