Panthers Sweep Season Series from Marygrove

DU won 96-66 behind Dominez Burnett’s 33 points and 11 rebounds

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team won for the fourth straight time on Saturday with a 96-66 victory over Marygrove to sweep the season series from the Mustangs and improve to 17-3 overall and 11-1 in the WHAC. The Panthers beat Marygrove for the tenth straight time as well and scored 52 points in the first half to lead 52-39 at the break.

The game remained close in the first five minutes as DU led 14-8 after a lay-up by Dominez Burnett. Wayne Bradford followed with a three-pointer on the next possession for a nine-point lead and Burnett dunked on the fast break to increase the lead to 19-8. Marygrove cut the deficit to five with six straight points including a Nate Taylor triple with 12:11 left in the half. Davenport flirted with a double-digit lead and then the Mustangs battled back as DU led 31-27 with 7:12 remaining in the half. DU went on a 12-2 run to lead 43-31 with 3:32 to play in the half.

The Panthers increased their lead to 21 at 75-54 with 12:46 to go in the game after a Wes Webbert lay-up and the Mustangs never got any closer as DU increased their lead to 92-64 on a triple by Cameron Burns with 3:51 to play. Burnett finished with 33 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. He also had three assists, two blocks and two steals. Kevin Rich scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds pushing his career point total to 987. He added four assists and one steal while making three triples. Bradford contributed 11 points and five rebounds. Davenport shot 46.2 percent from the floor including 31.3 percent from the arc and 66.7 percent at the free throw line.
