GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The men's Division II hockey squad rebounded from a Friday night loss at Michigan State by defeating the Spartans 7-2 on home ice on Saturday evening. The Panthers'
Donald Sund scored both first period goals to run his team-leading total to 22.
Jake Otto assisted on the first at 4:21 and
Branden Burton assisted on the power play goal at 9:29.
The Spartans came right back with the next two goals to tie it up in the second period. Joseph Hewitt (3:52) and Tyler Van Acker (4:34) struck quickly for MSU. It proved to be enough motivation for Davenport as they closed the game with five straight goals. Otto scored the game-winning goal at 9:15 on the power play from
Austin Flores.
Blake Damerow added another power play goal at 19:30 from
Trevor Murray.
Tyler Thomas began the third period scoring at 7:01 from Zac Bodziak.
Chris McRae scored 1:24 later from Flores for a 6-2 lead. Otto's second of the night from Sund at 10:03 rounded out the scoring. Grant Luzynski stopped 46 shots for the Spartans while
Christian Thompson made 27 saves in the win for DU.
