LIVONIA, Mich. - The Madonna Crusaders fell to the Panthers 117-53 back on November 24, but Wednesday night was a completely different game. The Crusaders took a two-point lead with 1:25 left in the first quarter and did not surrender their advantage for the remainder of the game. They built their lead to as many as 20 as they went on to hand DU their fifth loss of the season and second loss in the WHAC. Madonna took the game, 77-62, to put the Panther record at 17-5, 13-2 and gave DU their biggest loss since their 18-point setback to Indiana Wesleyan in the 2013 NAIA National Championship game.
The Panthers would battle Madonna through the first quarter as the teams remained tied 16-16 with 1:59 left in the quarter. The Crusaders would answer last with a jumper in the paint by Becca Sabol to take the 18-16 lead, and they did not let DU take over the lead again. The Panthers would fight to a 37-31 halftime deficit.
Molly Babbs and
Kendra Cook would respond in the second half to help DU battle back into the game. Babbs led DU all game with a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds while Cook totaled 14 points and seven boards. The Crusaders would extend their lead to as many as 20 points in the fourth quarter as DU would fight to find an offensive rhythm.
Momo Neal helped aid the DU attack that battled to get on track with 13 points, but the Panthers were not able to climb within single digits of the Crusaders again.
Becca Sabol and Lindsey Hernden led the Madonna attack with 27 points and 20 points respectively. The Crusaders would go on to shoot 54.5% from the floor in the second half while they held DU to shooting 37.3% from the floor for the game.
