Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The men's Division I hockey team provided late drama as they had a serious threat to their lengthy win streak on Saturday. The Panthers needed overtime but got a 3-2 win over Robert Morris on a
Jordan Simmonds game-winning goal.
The Eagles got on the board first at 4:24 of the first as Derek Diaz snapped a shot from the point with an assist from Gavin Burbach. The Panthers wrapped up the first period with the next two goals for a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes. Simmonds teamed up with
Alex Hulford and
Chris Eckler to tie the game at 17:32.
Adam Goudelock scored with 29 seconds left in the period from
Luke McCarthy.
Robert Morris scored the tying goal at 1:11 of the second as Josh Hart ripped off off the post into the net from Diaz. The next 38:49 saw neither team break the tie as Davenport had 13 shots in the second and nine more in the third. The Eagles had 12 shots in the third but could not beat
Matt Kaludis.
It took little time to decide a winner as Simmonds ripped a slap shot to the top right corner for the win from
Everett Thompson and
Tyler Ploeg. Kaludis made 25 saves in the win.
