ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Davenport men's basketball team rebounded from a home loss to Aquinas last Saturday with a 70-53 road win at Concordia in WHAC action on Wednesday (Jan. 6). The No. 5 Panthers dropped two spots in the national poll this week after the loss to the Saints but with the win improved to 14-3 overall and 8-1 in the WHAC. The team will now gear up for a test at No. 7 Cornerstone on Saturday against their rival and defending national champs.
Davenport defeated Concordia for the sixth straight time and got back to tough defense which eluded them in the previous contest. CU shot just 31.7 percent from the floor and made nine three-pointers and 10 two-pointers. The Cardinals also turned it over 17 times and recorded just three steals.
The Panthers rode the hot hand of senior
Dominez Burnett who found his touch from long range for the first time this season. Entering the game averaging 25 points per game but shooting just 21 percent from the arc, Burnett made 3-of-4 from deep and finished 10-of-16 from the floor and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. He scored 30 points and hit that mark for the fourth time this season. Burnett also grabbed five rebounds while recording four steals and two assists in 30 minutes.
Nick Gamble hit for double figures for just the third time this season with 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting in 24 minutes after getting his first start.
John McCloud went 3-of-3 from the floor and 2-of-2 at the line to finish with eight points. He snatched five rebounds and also tied a career-high with four blocked shots.
Kevin Rich tossed in seven points and grabbed seven boards in 33 minutes. DU improved to 7-0 in away games this season winning by an average of 17 points.
