Law Fuels Panthers in 83-57 Win over Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Senior Alex Law helped spark the Panthers in a hard-fought game Saturday afternoon as she tallied 19 points to help DU pull away to a 83-57 win.

DU and the Golden Eagles found themselves in a close game in the second quarter as they held a slight 24-19 edge. DU then broke the game open with a 10-0 run as they would carry a 34-21 halftime lead. DU was balanced offensively in the first half led by Lauren Brower and her seven points. The Panther defense held Cornerstone to just 25.0% shooting from the floor and forced 12 turnovers.

The third quarter saw the Panthers pull away from Cornerstone for good as Law sparked DU in the final 3:12 of the quarter with eight points. The Golden Eagles had cut the Panther lead to 10, 47-37, before Law took the team on her back and helped DU carry 55-40 lead heading into the fourth quarter. DU would continue its balanced scoring in the fourth quarter as Mallory Sewell and Molly Babbs would add to the Panther offense that eventually took the game by 26 points. Sewell recorded 12 points to accompany eight rebounds while Babbs totaled 11 points and seven boards.

Head Coach Robyn Scherr-Wells with her team's performance, "Cornerstone came out and played tough and made it hard for us to do what we wanted to do on offense in the first half.  We turned the ball over too many times. Our defense was the difference maker in the first half. I thought we made them work for every shot they took. It was great to see our team stay the course in the second half and find some rhythm on offense. Law stepped up and hit some big shots that helped spur a nice run for us. I thought our post group was really tough again. It always feels good to get a quality win on the road against a rival."

The DU depth continued to be a driving force as they recorded 29 points for the game, including Momo Neal who totaled eight points. The Panthers held the advantage inside as they outscored 56-26 in points in the paint while they out rebounded the Golden Eagles 50-41.
