Panthers Grind Out win over Bowling Green State

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Davenport men's rugby team improved to 3-1 this fall with a gritty 29-20 win at Bowling Green State on Saturday. The battle between the sixth-ranked Panthers and 10th-ranked Falcons proved to be a classic matchup on a beautiful afternoon. The Panthers took the early lead before the Falcons battled back and made things interesting with about five minutes to play. Davenport held firm down the stretch and made great decisions with Hayden Gort at full back having a particularly stellar performance. After losing the starting scrum half Brady Gent it was newcomer Ben Terrell coming in and playing an outstanding game leading the team with a try and also setting up Dominique Bailey for the decisive try against BGSU. Bailey finished with two trys while Chase Pego and Hans Dessureault also had a try for Davenport. Noah Zomberg converted two of five conversions despite a stiff wind all match.

"Overall we played a clinical game of rugby in the second half," said head coach Harry King. "We started to make more mistakes then usual and we were losing the ball in contact which gave the Falcons more opportunities to bring the score closer then it should have been. However both teams played within the laws of the game and the contest was a hard hitting battle of two solid programs. BGSU has been a solid program going back to a point when I was competing against them, so I knew we were in a battle with this contending D1AA Club Program."
