Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Cold And Rainy Weather Doesn't Hold Back The Panthers As They Earn At Least A Share Of Conference Title

Davenport scores a goal in the 86th minute to win 3-2 at Siena Heights

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Panthers clinch at least a share of the WHAC regular season conference championship after they defeat Siena Heights 3-2 in Adrian, Mich. Davenport is now 16-0-1 on the season and only have one regular season game remaining. With a win or tie in their game at Indiana Tech on Saturday the women's soccer team can win the regular season conference title outright.

The weather didn't hold the Panthers back during this cold and wet Wednesday night. Sophomore Alayna Hilgendorf got things started for the Panthers with a skipping shot from about 25 yards out. She received a pass from Roheema Bennett, turned and kicked the ball low and hard at the left side of the net. The keeper misjudged the ball and it slid into the net.
Both of the Saints goals were off of rebounds and the first goal was scored in the 43rd minute of the game. The Panthers would head into half time tied 1-1 with the Saints.

The starters came out with some fire underneath them as they were on the attack early. Hilgendorf would find her mark again, this time on an unassisted effort. She dribbled a few times towards the middle of the field and riffled a shot from about 30 yards out into the left side of the net. Davenport would lead 2-1 up until the 69th minute where the Saints would respond with another rebound goal.

Both teams would amp up their intensity to end the last 20 minutes of play. Davenport would convert on an attack from Shameeka Fishley. Fishley, with a defender on her hip, would wind up and fire a shot into the left upper 90 in the 86th minute. The Panthers would fend off the Saints remaining attacks and win the game 3-2.

Davenport earned at least a share of the regular season conference title and this Saturday have a chance to win the championship out right. The Panthers travel to Fort Wayne, Ind. to take on Indiana Tech, game is set to start at 12 p.m.
