GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The men's ACHA Division I hockey team picked up a 5-3 win in their home opener on Sunday over Niagara. The win moves the Panthers to 3-0 overall.
The first period provided four goals and a 2-2 tie after 20 minutes. David Fish and Dalton Bew scored for Niagara while
Wade Weisgerber and
Joey Ogden scored for Davenport. Weisgerber scored at 9:26 from
Jordan Simmonds and
Alex Hulford. Ogden scored at 11:09 from
Alyx Fonseca.
DU scored the only goal of the second period to take a 3-2 lead into the third.
Jon Mencer scored at 10:07 from Ogden and Mike Lozicki. The Purple Eagles tie it up at 2:22 of the third as Tyler Stockwell scored with assists from Ryan Peters and Dallas Szustak.
The Panthers would add the final two goals as
Aaron Beally scored the game-winner at 12:08 from Hulford and Hulford added an empty-netter at 19:32 from
Everett Thompson.
Tanner Swift made 17 saves for Davenport while his counterpart Mike Parda made 43 saves for the Purple Eagles.
