CHICAGO, Ill. - The women's basketball team traveled to 6th-ranked Saint Xavier on Saturday and couldn't put together a strong second half in a 93-72 loss to the Cougars. Davenport currently 8th in NAIA Division II suffered their first loss of the season (3-1) shooting just 13-of-39 from the floor in the second half. The Cougars led 24-15 after the first quarter and then the Panthers cut the deficit to 44-40 at halftime by shooting 42.9 percent in the second quarter.
In the second half, SXU came out shooting 52.2 percent in the third quarter and 42.9 percent in the fourth quarter including 4-of-9 behind the arc in the final 10 minutes. Davenport could not find its touch behind the arc going 4-of-18 in the contest. The Cougars scored 62 of their points in the paint compared to 40 for the Panthers. Davenport led for just 1:19 of the game early in the first quarter. SXU got a monster game from Brittany Collins with 26 points and 14 rebounds in 30 minutes. Mikayla Leyden contributed 17 points, nine assists and no turnovers.
The Panthers turned it over 21 times compared to nine for the home team.
Molly Babbs recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds in 26 minutes.
Mallory Sewell chipped in nine points in 17 minutes.
Chri Carter scored 14 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists.
Lauren Brower scored 10 points and grabbed four boards.
Jenna Falkenberg had a season-high 11 rebounds and scored six points off the bench in 10 minutes.
