DEARBORN, Mich. - The women's basketball team played a stifling brand of defense on Wednesday night in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener. Davenport traveled to Michigan-Dearborn and picked up a 75-54 win over the Wolverines.
Davenport raced out to a 22-12 lead after the first quarter. UM-D shot 27.8 percent while the Panthers opened up shooting 47.1 percent including 4-of-8 from three-point territory.
The good shooting continued into the second quarter as DU shot 50 percent and led 40-25 at halftime. UM-D kept it closer in the final two quarters being outscored 17-13 in the third and 18-16 in the fourth quarter. DU held their largest lead of 22 points just 11 seconds into the fourth quarter.
Courtney Murphy scored 13 points and made four triples to lead the Panthers.
Emily Severn made three long-range bombs and finished with 11 points in 21 minutes.
Molly Babbs scored 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 25 minutes.
Michaela Faber got the start in the frontcourt and scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.
